As the fabulous Bette Midler once said: “Give a girl the correct footwear, and she can conquer the world.” Admittedly, I am a shoe-aholic. So much so, that if I’m out shopping with my son and we’re about to pass a shoe store, he surrounds my head on both sides with his hands (like horse blinders), and says: “don’t even look Mom…just keep on walking.” Honestly, he saves me thousands a month. But, recently I had the pleasure of visiting Cheree Amour Shoes in Liberty Walk on my own, so I had to make a purchase. While waiting for Cheree to arrive at the store a few Saturdays back, I watched women try on shoes for about an hour and realized what a fabulous ritual shoe –shopping is for women. Watch closely and you can actually see the facial expression, body language, attitude and confidence level change when a woman tries on the right shoe…a beautiful, almost sexual metamorphosis occurs.
Cheree Amour Shoes is run by a Mother/Daughter duo, Mom Yvette and her daughter Cheree Atwood. As the name suggests, they absolutely love shoes. Their mission is to provide Philadelphia with an upscale selection of women’s shoes combined with outstanding customer service. I can tell you first hand, they’ve mastered both in less than 2 years, which is how long they’ve been on the walk. Cheree Amour is one of the four African-American owned businesses on the walk and one of the 15 female owned businesses. If that’s not reason enough to support their efforts, just know that Brown Betty is only footsteps away from Cheree Amour. The decadence of fabulous shoes and chocolate raspberry cupcakes will make any shopping excursion a completely worthwhile experience.
